English High Tea in the Netherlands

Last Sunday, I finally enjoyed a High Tea again, after 6 years!!

The last time I went for high tea was when I was still living in Exeter, United Kingdom. There was this one Tea House called Roger's Tea House. The high tea there was amazing!

But this time, my choice went fro a British Lunchroom in the Hague, called Scallywags Lunchroom.

A good friend of mine has recommended this lunchroom. I actually has walked past this lunchroom quite often, but I never had the guts to try (some Dutch restaurants or café are not that special! They serve 'standard' Dutch food, like toasted sandwich (tosti), sandwich, panini, salad, (dutch apple) cakes, and coffee). But because of recommendation, and because of good ratings in iens.nl , I decided to choose this place to meet up with my friends.

According to iens.nl, you have to reserve some days in advance if you want to have lunch/high tea in this place. So I did! And I am sooo glad I did reserve. because when we entered, there was no seat left. Even after some people left, the seats were alwaays reserved.

So, go back to our high tea experience. After we were seated, the owner, himself, served Diana tea (the owner loves Lady Diana. The pictures of her are everywhere!).

After the Diana tea, we were offered a salad. We could choose from: bacon, vegetarian and tuna. Of course, my choice was tuna! And fyi, the tea is free flow! we could order as much tea as we want, any type of tea in the menu!

The salad was served with two types of grilled half-slice bread: corn bread and whole wheat bread. The salad was served with balsamico-like dressing. Love this salad!

The next things coming to our table are the cakes and scones with cream and jam!

Yummy!
If only there was a better word that could explain how delicious it was. For me the scones are super lekker (delicious)! But the cakes are okay. Not that special, but also delicious.

The text in Scallywags' website and business card is true: scallywags-lunchroom - over 16 years of public service. The best rolling scones in town.

All these yummy things are all inclusive in high tea menu; and it costs 15 €.

Next time, I will definitely come back to order the cream tea menu only: scones, cream, jam, and tea (the Diana tea!).

What would you do if you could live another life

What would you do if you could live another life just for one day? This line is quoted from "Last Chance Harvey" . I have watched this film twice and still feel so touched everytime I watch it. Kate Walker, the main character in this film, uttered this question to Harvey Shine. In this story, both of them lived a life that is not very happy-chappy. Kate lived in a pathetic, boring life; Harvey in a screwed one. When Kate asked this question, both of them seem to ponder: what if I could live a different life, just for one day, just to try out. This question makes me ponder, too: what would I do if I was given a chance to live any kind of life I want, just for one day? Where would I be? What would I do? Who would I be? Lately I have been thinking about the life I am living right now. Everything is so well-planned. I graduated from high school, went abroad to study, came back home to work, went abroad again to do my master, working in a reasonably good organisation, and going ho...

The unexpected wedding

Almost every girl has ever dreamt of her wedding day – what she would wear, who would come, who the prince charming is. I would say, every girl must have a certain expectation and standard when it comes to a wedding: it could be grand, small celebration, family only, destination wedding – you name it. My dream wedding happens to me a small, close friends and family only wedding. If you grew up in the 90s, you would know a boy band called 98 degree. They had a song titled ‘I do’. If you search on YouTube, you will find the video clip, which shows a beautiful wedding ceremony. That’s my dream wedding! My whole life, I was picturing that. Twelve years ago, I started dating this guy, who is now my husband. His family background is very different than mine. Among other things – which we thankfully have tolerated and worked on – the way to throw a wedding party is totally different. His dream wedding party is ‘tell the world I am getting married’-kind of party. Yes, he wanted grand...

The Bright Side

Always look at the bright side of life - Monty Phyton This song has been sung during the Olympics closing ceremony last year; and this has been my cheer up song ever since. Thus, referring to my earlier blog about how I was not happy with the way we got married, well, I tried to look back and to see the bright side of that circumstance. So if I could share a few things, which might be helpful to you, who are in the middle of preparing a wedding, here they are: 1. Wedding dress I was really happy with my wedding dress. I love the designer, Fifi Firianty , which was very helpful and very professional, and of course her work is stunning. From the first time I met her, I knew there was a click. So, if you look for a designer, who has a European style, please do consider her.  But just some tips, make sure you ask to have you dress fitted one day before the wedding. I had it measure 3 days before the wedding, but in the last 3 days, I ate almost nothing. So this dress...
